Last Tuesday the first meeting of the PHP Usergroup Hamburg after the summer break took place. This time it was hosted by the Wer liefert was? GmbH. After a first small talk, the main talks started at 7 pm.

In the first talk of the evening, Michael Häußler gave us an insight into the Implementation of the SugarCRM at the Wer liefert was? GmbH. He described various technical challenges which had to be solved. For example, PHP and MySQL were not included in the company’s tech stack. The company had to gain experience in these technologies first. Beside that, the employees had to face procedural changes in their daily job routine. The SugarCRM-App, which was introduced as well, makes it possible to recall customer data online. Until then, the data had to be printed. What seems to be a major workflow improvement, was rejected by the employees at the beginning. By now, this process is indispensable.

The second part of the evening was supposed to be a discussion about code reviews. However, as there came up the topic Deployment, Arne Blankerts and Sebastian Heuer held a spontaneous talk about it. Using a practical example, they described a strategy to eliminate the four main problems during deployments:

Sebastian was so kind to upload the presentation to Speaker Deck.

In conclusion, I would like to say “Thank you!” to the organizers, all the speakers and the Wer liefert was? GmbH for hosting this event. It was a really nice evening, see you next time! :)
